Lady Tigers Fall to Cowley
Fort Hays Tech Northwest Women's Basketball fell to Cowley Community College at home on Sunday afternoon, 88–66
Cowley opened the scoring with two consecutive baskets before Tech responded with a 9–4 run, fueled by three triples on consecutive possessions. Midway through the quarter, FHNW called a timeout after Cowley secured three straight offensive rebounds that resulted in a foul. Cowley would then go on a 13–2 run to put them ahead, 21–13, with 3:38 remaining in the quarter. Marta Rodriguez quickly ended Tech's drought with another three-pointer, as Coach Klein immediately called a timeout to regroup. Cowley would quickly answer with a three-pointer of their own, resuming their scoring run, ending the quarter 29–19.
Cowley carried that momentum into the second quarter, scoring five straight points to extend the lead. Al'asia Brown stopped the run with a corner three, but with the score at 37–27 and just under seven minutes left in the half, Cowley put together another 8–0 stretch to push the margin to 45–27 before Tech called a timeout with 4:27 remaining. The Lady Tigers would manage to match Cowley for the remainder of the half, with the score at 50-34 going into halftime.
Cowley would quickly extend to a 20-point lead, 57–36, to start the third, forcing FHNW to burn another timeout. Al'Asia Brown would again end the Tigers' drought as Tech attempted to claw their way back into the game. The Lady Tigers would nearly knock Cowley's lead down to single digits (61–49) with 3:30 remaining. However, Cowley quickly regained control, scoring 10 straight points to extend their lead back out past 20 points before ending the quarter leading 72–53.
Scoring slowed in the fourth quarter, though Cowley extended its advantage to as many as 26 points with two minutes remaining before securing the 88–66 victory.
The Lady Tigers finished with three players in double figures, with Taisiia Vypovska leading the way with a season high of 16 points. Al'asia Brown added 15, and Marta Rodriguez scored 10.
Cowley placed four players in double figures. Megan Simon led all scorers with a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Mallory Jackson added 17 points and 12 rebounds, highlighting Cowley's advantage on the glass.
Women's Basketball returns to action on Wednesday at home, where they will face Dodge City Community College at 5:30 p.m.
