Lady Tigers Fall to Dodge City
Fort Hays Tech Northwest Women's Basketball fell to the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors on Wednesday, 70–28.
The opening quarter featured a slow offensive start, with Dodge City eventually using an 8–3 run to take a 10–5 lead into the second period. The Conquistadors found their rhythm from beyond the arc early in the second quarter, putting together an 8–0 run to extend the lead to 18–5, prompting a Tech timeout. Following a lineup adjustment, the Lady Tigers were able to generate some offense, but Dodge City continued to build momentum, carrying a 33–15 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Conqs would soon extend their lead past 20 points, fueled by a short scoring run to put the score at 42–20 with just under five minutes left in the third. Dodge would further extend their advantage to 50–24 before entering the fourth. The Conqs would go on a 20–4 run to finish the game, sealing their second win over the Tigers, 70–28.
Statistically, several factors proved decisive. Dodge City attempted 29 more field goals than Tech and shot 37.9 percent from the field compared to the Tigers' 21.6 percent. The Conquistadors also dominated the glass, finishing with 41 rebounds and collecting more offensive rebounds than Tech had total rebounds. Additionally, the Lady Tigers committed 28 turnovers in the contest.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Concordia, Kansas, to take on Cloud County Community College.
