Colothdian Tate Named Head Women's Wrestling Coach

Colothdian Tate Named Head Women's Wrestling Coach

Colothdian Tate has been promoted to Women's Wrestling Head Coach after serving as an assistant wrestling coach for three years and the interim women's wrestling coach for the majority of the current academic year.

During his time coaching at the Tech, Cloti has overseen much of the operations and coaching within the women's wrestling program, helping coach four All-Americans. Also, notable is women's wrestling achieving two consecutive All-Academic Team of the Year awards in that time.

"Cloti has been a consistent and reliable face for our women’s wrestling program," said Athletic Director Rory Kling. "He has developed the program over the last few years through bigger roster numbers as well as success on the national stage. We look forward to what he can continue to do in the future."

Originally a native of Baton Rouge, LA, Cloti attended Baton Rouge Magnet High School, where he was a three-time state qualifier and 2x state champion; he went undefeated during those two championship years. Dr. Tate also earned All-American status at Cadet Nationals and placed third at high school nationals. After high school, he attended Colby Community College in Colby, KS. While attending Colby, he was a 2x All-American and national champion. After Colby, Tate continued his wrestling career at Iowa State University, where he was coached by legendary Coach Bobby Douglas. While at Iowa State, Tate won a Big 8 Championship (now the Big 12) and qualified for the national tournament. He placed third at University Nationals and won many other tournaments during his time at Iowa State.

Cloti was the third wrestler to go D1 and the first JUCO national champ to come out of Louisiana. Dr. Tate and Coach Ramico Blackmon both wrestled together while at Colby Community College, where they earned All-American honors. Tate was also inducted into the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008.

Cloti earned an associate's degree in biology from Colby Community College, a bachelor's degree in biology from Iowa State University, and a Ph.D. in entomology from Iowa State University.

When not wrestling, Cloti enjoys spending time with his three children and attending their many activities.
