Tigers Place 8th at District Championships

Pratt, KS. — Fort Hays Tech Northwest Men's Wrestling competed at the South Central District Championships on Saturday, with the team placing 8th overall with 66.5 points. The Tigers placed in seven weight classes, with five of the seven qualifying for Nationals. Tech's national qualifiers include Ernest Grant, Trace Brisendine, Braxton McAvey, Parker Farr, and Aukbir Ramazan.

 

Individual Results:

#12 Ernest Grant (125 lbs) placed 7th, losing his first match by fall to an unranked wrestler from Labette. In the consolation bracket, Grant majored his next opponent before losing his next match by medical forfeit with a loss due to an illegal move. In the 7th place match, Grant won after his opponent took an injury default. 

Trace Brisendine (133 lbs) placed 8th, winning his first match by major decision before losing to #5 Sean-Michael Gonzalez (Carl Albert State) by fall in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket, Brisendine pinned his next two opponents in the first period.

Nathan Bailey (141 lbs) placed 8th, winning his first match by tech fall before losing in the quarterfinals by decision (9-3). Bailey won his next match in the consolations by major decision before losing the following match by decision (11-6). In the 7th place match, Bailey would be pinned by his opponent.

Darrious Perkins (149 lbs) did not place, losing both his matches by technical fall. 

Connor Colby (157 lbs) did not place, losing both of his matches by fall and tech fall.

Braxton McAvey (165 lbs) placed 2nd, pinning his first two opponents in the first period before pinning his third opponent in the third period. In the 1st place match, McAvey lost by decision (6-1). 

Parker Farr (174 lbs) placed 6th, losing his first match by fall. In his first consolation match, Farr won by injury default before pinning his next opponent to advance to the 5th place match. In his final match, Farr would fall by major decision. 

Steven McIntyre (184 lbs) did not place, losing both his matches by fall.

Aukbir Ramazan (197 lbs) placed 6th, losing his first match by fall before majoring his next opponent and winning his next by decision (6-2). Ramazan would lose his following two matches by fall.

Jayden Shannon (285 lbs) placed 8th. Shannon would lose his first match by fall before bouncing back in the consolations, winning his next match by decision (11-4). Shannon would lose his following match by fall before losing by decision (17-10) in the 7th place match.

FHNW Men's Wrestling will now turn its focus to the National Tournament, scheduled for March 6th and 7th in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
