Softball Splits with MidAmerica Nazarene
Fort Hays Tech Northwest Softball Split games with the MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers on Tuesday. The Tigers lost their first game 17-4 and won their second, 12-8.
Game 1:
The MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers defeated the FHNW Tigers 17-4 on Tuesday thanks in large part to nine runs in the first inning.
MNU jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored one run, Audrie Hansen drew a walk, scoring one run, Jordyn Rosales singled, scoring one run, Andrea Carrillo drew a walk, scoring one run, Avery Sutley hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Morgan Hamilton doubled, scoring three runs, and Hansen singled, scoring one run.
The Pioneers added one run in the third after Hansen singled down the left field line.
MNU scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Carrillo singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Hamilton singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Madison Mays doubled, scoring two runs.
#8 earned the win for MNU. The hurler allowed eight hits and four runs over five innings, striking out two and walking four.
Natori Yates and Nadia Armstrong each collected two hits for the Tigers. Legase Laumoana, Yates, and Armstrong each drove in one run. Aniya Mecham paced the Tigers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying four walks for the game. Laumoana and Harley Dehner each stole multiple bases. The Tigers would run wild around the bases, amassing six stolen bases for the game. Fort Hays Tech Tigers turned one double play in the game.
The Pioneers tallied 13 hits in the game. Rosales and Hamilton each collected three hits. Hamilton went 3-for-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Hansen and Mays each collected multiple hits for the Pioneers. Bethany Gould paced with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. MNU was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Hamilton made the most plays with three.
Game 2:
Natori Yates collected four hits in five at bats, as the Tigers defeated MNU 12-8 in the second match-up. Yates doubled in the third inning, doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
A ground out by Harley Dehner put the Tigers on the board in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first inning, MNU took back into the lead after FHNW committed an error and Martina Royer grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.
Tech would flip the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring seven runs on seven hits to take the lead, 8-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Yates that drove in two.
Nadia Armstrong earned the win for Tech. The starter allowed six hits and eight runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out one and walking two. Trysta Miller took the loss for the Pioneers. The hurler went four and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking none.
The Tigers collected 17 hits in the game. Ayanna Martinez and Yates each drove in three runs. Legase Laumoana and Joslynn Brown each collected multiple hits and Laumoana stole four bases. The Tigers would steal a total of six bases on the game.
Tiger Softball will be back in action on Monday at home vs. McCook Community College. Games start at 1:00 p.m.
